Walkin' In Memphis...

...in subzero temperatures. All weekend long. I REALLY am ready for spring. It makes me happy. And then summer. Makes me even happier.

So I spent yet another weekend in that bluesy, jazzy town down yonder. I'm beginning to feel like I live there and just work in Nashville. It's a bit of an odd feeling, actually. I went out to my beloved Greenhouse here in town on Friday night (ironically, hanging out with some Memphis friends that happened to be around) and felt like I was the one visiting. After thirteen years in the Music City, I think I have finally burnt out completely. I don't think even the one and only
Dempseys and their wild crazy show at Rippy's on Broadway can save me this time. Brad, Joe and Ron...Burnin' Love forever. Next time change your Zeppelin set from Stairway to Going To California.

I digress. Saturday and Sunday nights were spent at various bars in various parts of Memphis, listening to various types of music having lots o' fun. Even partied with the King, as a true Presley should. Met lots of great people, too. I'm quickly learning that Memphis seems to be surpassing Nashville as far as nightlife goes. It just has a more eclectic mix. (For more info on that, check out the fab Mark Richens' one and only
Memphis Scene)

All that to say, there seems to be many more college age kids here, as opposed to post-college age kids like myself. Am I really getting that old? It was nice to not feel 6 or 7 years older than everyone. What's happening?

Over the long weekend (thanks to MLK), I had an hour or two to spare, so I decided to drive over the Mississippi River to see what was on the other side. Arkansas. No need to go there ever again. But hey, now the mystery is solved.

PS - I swear Julie Brindley really exists.

Sidenote to Mr. Roboto: Just because I get burnt out on Nashville (though I know you like the girls better here) does not mean that I am burnt out on this blogging thing. I happen to be a very busy gal.

If you read THURSDAY NIGHT FEVER, Nashville's Greatest Nightlife Blog, you'll see that even our team of trained professionals believes that the Nashville scene has gone to crap.
