Down In The Basement...Grimey Style

So this post is a little late but I have no time! no time for shenanigans!

So anyway, last Tuesday Julie and I went out to Grimey's new and improved "The Basement" on 8th Avenue South. The previously tattered and torn venue just reopened last weekend under new ownership. Mike Grimes, owner of the best indie rock shop in town, is now sporting a swanky yet alternative and very cozy club that will hopefully bring in some deserving bands to Nashville. A very cool hang. See website for upcoming shows.

Memphis-based Snowglobe was the band of the evening. A pop/rock band that could easily be compared to Cake's Fashion Nugget days, these guys definitely rocked the house. So much so that at one point half the strings on dude's guitar were broken. Topped off by amazing trumpet grooves and "serious" guitar riffs, the boys started off their US tour with a bang.

Melissa Mathes, joined by my long lost sweet thang Kevin Rhoads and singer/songwriter Newton Dominey (the guy who sold me my first Sprint PCS phone and hooked me up with the FAB4 number - also a college crush of Julie's), provided a mellow yet moving opening act.
