I'm Back. And Tennessee Sucks.

If there is one thing that I can agree on with Ryan Adams, it's track 8 on his 2002 recording, Demolitian. Tennessee does suck. (Unless you're here raising a family, it is good for that.)

This happens to me everytime I get back from the West Coast. I'm a Hollywood girl at heart and it's just such a good reminder of how this place is so not cool. I mean, really. You so have to have been there to know what I'm sayin'.

Details later on the trip up the PCH, the party at the Avalon in Beverly Hills, lunch on the Warner Lot and the homeless guy with the "I'm Broke" hat who gave me the rose at The Viper Room while I was helping a partner in crime pass out Filter mini-mags.

Hollywood...I am madly in love.

PS - The new Beck CD, Guero, is incredible. A must-own. Twist between Mellow Gold and Odelay, which were his two best to date.

You're opening up an old can of worms here, missy! If I may say, Tennessee does not suck. At least not to me. Or the millions of others that have moved here and stayed here. I still stick to my story that you were so stuck in the throes of adolescent misery when you moved here, you're always going to hate it here.

I take a lot of pride in my city, so Basher no bashing! And pardon me if noone else likes Dora.

forgot to mention that the new Beck cd is indeed muy bueno. I've fought the Beck wave, so this is the first one I've had, and it's pretty freakin good. Got White Stripes for the first time also...freakin rad!

    1) Tennessee doesn't suck. LA is an interesting place to visit, but...man...I don't think I would want to live there. There are other places in California that would be nice to live (Sonoma County maybe), but I'm not sure I could handle the overall political climate of the state.

Oh, and there is nothing that compares to driving down the Pacific Coast Highway. It's the ultimate driving experience.

    2) Yes, Guero is great...although I still think Golden Age is the best to date. :P

Okay, Hater! Tennessee doesn't suck...it can get boring at times but that's a given anywhere. But, then again, you're not a "true Tennessean" since you migrated from Michigan - so I can't give you too much slack. Although, Tenneesee is better than Michigan..hee hee!!

Ok, I'm taking full credit for your obsession with L.A. Ok, maybe not full credit, but you had your first rendezvous with L.A. when drove you there in my car. I won't even start with the flashbacks. haahaa Ok, my thoughts? I think you should move over here with me in AZ because it's cheaper than Cali. Imagine the madness......
P.S. I'm moving into my house at the end of May and it's got 4 bedrooms....need I say more? Hello roomie!!!
No comment on Beck. Haven't heard the new cd yet. Break all the rules and burn it for me Jill :o)

From what I understand, only psychos live in Arizona. Especially in Tempe.

    That's just what I heard.

Good thing I don't live in Tempe....although, I do like to bop on occasion.
By the way, does anybody work during the day or do we all just slack off a blog all day long...heehee

actually, i just got the memo...tennessee does suck - at least the middle part does. a short list:

-allergies. the bane of my existence.
-humidity. whenever i get to heaven, i really need to bring this up with God.
-roads. don't say they don't suck.

jill & julie: i just found and just left a message on your february post about my show...thought i should mention it. thanks for the compliment...mellow yet moving. can i use that?

LA 2002 was indeed, maahhhvelous. LA 2005 was a completely different perspective. And still maahhhvelous.

I know, I know...you all are sticking up for your home state. It is beautiful and all, but I will say, it sucks for me.

So without wanting to offend anyone, I'll stop there. But there are soooooo many reasons I don't belong here!

Like I said before, you belong in AND CAN AFFORD Arizona. Think about it. You can consider yourself a West-coaster, you'll be so close to your dear old L.A but you'll be paying $1000 less in rent :o) Therefore, you can use that money to visit L.A anytime you want!

Don't deny, 2002 was way better.

Holy crap! Newton?!? Good memory...that was like at least 4 years ago or so. I only remember you cuz I thought you were hot. Then Julie confirmed on the Lipscomb thing. And whenever I get crap over my phone number, I just blame it on the hot guy that hooked me up. (But secretly I still love it.)

And now look, you've found yourself a new fun blog to read. You can totally use the "mellow yet moving" thing...just as long as you keep reading. I'll link your name to your site.

And thanks for sticking up for me on the Tennessee sucks thing.

If Tennessee sucks so bad, move the fuck out. We dont need wannabe coolguys living here just so they can feel cool because if they actually moved to LA or New York, they know damn well that they'd get swallowed up whole and disappear. Poseur.

Nashville isn't my hometown but it's my home. Hell the U.S. isn't my "hometown" either but I agree with Morgan on this one - move to LA and live there for a while and REALLY compare it. What I've learned is that visiting a city and seeing its highlights all lumped into one week can seem much more appealing than actually living there long term. Although, if you feel that strongly about it then I hope you give it a chance and move there for a bit and, y'know, blog about it or something :) A friend of mine shared your sentiment for the longest time after moving back from NY and now that she's back there, she's much much happier. Nashville's just not for everybody.

Personally, I think it's a wonderful city, with warm, much more genuine people than you might find in L.A.. Granted there are fewer rednecks and better shopping out there but where else are you going to find such awesome music? Which brings me to Mr. Dominey:

Yo! Newton! If those are the only reasons Tennessee sucks then admit it - it doesn't REALLY suck.

Okay, Morgan. Is there really a need to get all pissy? Sounds like you have some underlying issues. I didn't bash anyone who lived here and I also didn't say people who lived here suck, since I have some great family and friends here. I simply said it sucked for me.

True, LA wouldn't be good for life long fun, unless you're a crackhead. However, I've wanted to move out there for about ten years now so it's not like I went for a week and thought I was cool. So don't go calling me a wannabe poser when you don't even freakin' know me. You have no idea. It's not like I walk around calling myself a rockstar all the time.

    So, touche'.

wow! morgan with the venom. first, i won't admit to being completely serious about the suckiness of tennessee. and muffy (as usual) is right - if it only sucks for the reasons i mentioned, it can't suck too bad. but holy geez, i'm all of a sudden a poseur, should move out and get swallowed up? ouch. for what it's worth, i've been to new york and wasn't swallowed (there's a dirty joke there, but in polite company i'll leave it unsaid), but actually just dropped right in. i've lived in tennessee longer than anywhere else, 17 years. so if i can't say that it sucks and make fun of it, who can? try some yoga (muffy can recommend a place) or some meditation to relax. let's be friends.
besides, you know i'm right about the humidity...

morgan wets his bed. that, and again falls into stereotypes. LA swallowing people up? not really. only weak-willed people that are the types that never have the guts to move out of their hometown. sometimes comfort breeds complacency and boredom and people might want to try something exciting and new (yes, even L.A.). calling someone a poseur for that just makes you look like a dumbass. go call your mommy.
