Tapas & Black Keys
Had some gooooooood tapas hook-up at Mirror before the Keys show on Friday. I still love that place despite what some of you think. And...the mojitos aren't too shabby, either. They even have ginger ones. Mmmm. Funny, I happened to be there with all my Memphis crew - Mark, Alan and Amanda. It was almost twilight zone-ish, because the only time I'm ever with them all together is, you guessed it, in Memphis. They all rolled in for the show (and to see moi) so I thought I'd introduce them to the place. It's pretty much my favorite restaurant. (Except what was up with all the old people in there last night? Last I checked it was a fab hipster hang.)
The show...absolutely amazing. I wasn't surprised, but still. We met Jamie and Dave up there after waiting in a ridiculously long line in the freezing cold. (Is it almost May? And what's the point of will call if you still have to wait for years?)
Anyway, the coolest thing about The Black Keys is that they don't try. They just are. Two dudes playing their asses off on stage. Not wearing suits. Not trying to be someone they're not by keeping up with the latest trends of your average rock or pop band (prime example: The Killers). The guys had this undeniable stage presence, yet they weren't even working it. Had you in an instant. They're just that bad ass. House was packed...and another sold out show.
Although I am now paying for the fun that I've had. I got way sick on Thursday and thought I could pull it off a little better than I did. I was a total bum host but managed to set aside the fact that I had bronchitis, fever and allergies and went out for a night on the town anyway. I was a trooper for a few hours last night and now I am bed-ridden and heavily medicated.
But I really want to see The Mosquitos tonight... :(
