Food :: Music :: Bar
So Friday night was Jag and Jill night. And despite the fact that we talk close to fifty times a day, actually getting our schedules to jive is another story. At any rate, we made it an East Nashville night, and though we've both been out over there a million times, ironically neither one of us has ever made it to The Family Wash. And if we're talking ponds, Newton, this is one of mine.
Located on the corner of Porter and Greenwood, The Family Wash has it all. Cool vibe, delicious food, and tunes to eat and drink to. I got a Vegetarian Shephard's Pie and it was probably one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. Mmmmmmm. Not to mention great service...our girl ruled.
Shortly after the music started, we headed out to Red Door East for a quieter environment, as we had a wedding to plan and lives to discuss. Now, I had been to Red Door West on Division many a time, so I don't know why I expected anything different. RDE had the exact same vibe, which was actually a bit disappointing because it made it seem more like a chain. And being so new, the place was a bit too shiny. Not that I prefer dingy, dirty places...but a little bit of worn is always good. The patio was complete with antique hanging lights, which let off a cool nostalgic thing, but all the Red Bull can tables ruined that one real quick.
The 80's music blaring from the speakers kept us entertained. Motley Crue, Van Halen...they even played the alternate version of GNR's, Don't Cry. Seeing as we had based our 9th and 10th grade years, respectively, on Guns N Roses,we I sang along to almost every word. It's amazing how many song lyrics our memory can hold. Even more amazing how, after fourteen years, it all comes back.
Even though we were entertained by the 80's cheesiness, I think that the place would be much cooler if they started busting out some modern indie rock tunes...maybe a bit of upbeat Americana. At least, that's what I would do if I owned the place. But hey, that's just me.

I remembered the lyrics...I may not have sung with you, but I did bust out the Axl sway.
Yes, the Red Bull tables were a buzz kill. And the Family Wash rocked. I had salmon, and it was surprisingly delicious. We are so healthy.

i can't let this sit here with one lonely comment.
i like red door 1 okay. frankly it could use a bit more light outside, but other than that, it's cool.
red bull bar tables belong in frat houses and sports bars. or in garbage cans. any other locations are an example of dubious taste.

Dubious, indeed. I was freaking out about it the whole time. I didn't mention the massive Red Bull umbrellas.
And I was thinking today...if I owned a bar, I definitely would have a regular rotation of local artists playing in the jukebox (when they weren't playing there live).
You know of any, ND?
