Oh, The Places You'll Go

To celebrate Elvis week, here's us chillin' at the King's.
*****
While Jill has been slaving away at work and I, obviously have not, you get the distinct pleasure of reading the first ever post from yours truly.
Let's talk travel. I was fortunate enough to live overseas for seven years so I’m a huge advocate for Americans traveling abroad. I think it’s important for us to experience different cultures and gain an understanding of how things work outside of our native comfort zone. To me, traveling in general helps a person gain confidence, independence, and intellect. Not to mention a well-rounded personality.
Of course, the key to all of this travel is having the means to do so. I was blessed because my dad’s company moved my family abroad. After living in Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois and Minnesota, we moved to Singapore then on to Belgium where I finished high school. Being overseas made it very easy to travel to various countries. Not to mention hit the bars at a very early age.
I realize these days it’s hard to travel anywhere when you only have two weeks of vacation and you’re working at least sixty hours a week, but that my friends, will be addressed in my next ghost guest appearance.
In the meantime, here are some of my favorite places:
Bali, Indonesia – Exquisite beaches. If you’re not a water lover, I recommend visiting The Bounty – a land-docked ship that serves plenty of tasty beverages (watch out for the Jam Jars!). It’s also worth learning a Balinese dance move or two. After showing Jill a few moves, we’ve been known to bust them out on occasion.
The Spice Islands, Indonesia – The Banda Sea is spectacular if you’re a scuba enthusiast. You’ll think you’ve gone back in time when you take a shower in the mountain hot springs.
Phuket, Thailand – I was able to experience this beautiful paradise before the Tsunami wrenched it away.
Canary Islands, Spain – I was on the Gran Canaria where the weather goes from sunny beach sand dunes to frozen mountain tops. Jump on a moped and take an island tour.
Barcelona, Spain – Practice up on your Castillian Spanish or just go for Gaudi’s art alone!
Brisbane, Australia – Otherwise known as The Gold Coast or Surfers Paradise. You can find some of the best surfing in the world here and the friendliest people, too.
Nairobi, Kenya – Once you get out of the city, you’ll feel like you’re in a National Geographic series. I had the most amazing no kill animal safari and danced around a fire with the local Maasai Tribe.
I’ve never been to South America but it’s definitely on my list. If you are planning any trips in the near future, let me know. I’ll try and point you in the right direction. At any rate, whether you travel within the U.S. or abroad, leave the technology at home and get your asses out of those offices!!
The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.

We're thinking about living in Europe for a year or so after we get hitched...then you can come visit and you'll have a built in guide. For Germany, anyway.

Yes, he does. So much so that I've had his quote at the bottom of my blog for months.
According to Muffy, it's Singapore's birthday this week.

I've always got a valid passport lying around somewhere just in case I get the urge to take off across the seas.
What a coincidence about Singapore. It was a good/safe place to live. Although, I could post another article about the government over there. I went to school with Mike Fay (the kid that got caned) so it was certainly an experience during that time.
If anyone is up for going to Singapore, let me recommend visiting Sentosa Island, Raffles Hotel, Orchard Road, Pulau Ubin and China Town.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Newton....I'm really starting to like you with all this praise :o) I'll consider the blog.

Yup!
Singapore's National Day is August 9th. This year she turns a whopping 40 years old!!!
Bali truly is beautiful and if you're lucky enough to see parts of the island that aren't already tainted by tourism, it's even better.
But if you're ever in Singapore and you're splurging on going to Phuket or Bali, take the time to go to Singapore. There's so much to see and do.

Muffy - Yes I went to SAS! Don't tell me you did too! Do you know people from there? I've recently gotten back in touch with several people because there is a huge reunion in Vegas at the end of this month. I can't wait!!!
Michael - Thanks for the JG comment...I believe I have heard that once or twice in my life, especially when my hair is longer :o) Although you get points because you managed to noticed it behind my giant Elvis glasses.

Nah, I was a local yokel. But yes I did have friends who went to SAS, UWC, ISS... all those schools.
Oh yeah, I used to hang out at Far East Plaza.
Laaaaaame!
Heh.

What a small world! I knew people from those schools too because I competed against them in soccer, basketball, and track and field!
Far East. Hilarious! That was right by the American Club. I defiantly have my fair share of Far East Plaza memories! What about how all the McDonalds employees there were like 80 years old!

Oh yes, Sarah. You have been experiencing over the past couple of years what Ciaobella and I have been doing since birth. Well, hers anyway. I'm a tad older.
Los Angeles, Chicago, Virginia Beach, The Outer Banks, Pheonix, Las Vegas, Mexico...the list goes on. I was supposed to have a European vacation with her but apparently I was too young at that time to realize that I was dating Captain Possessive.
I guess that leaves a good location for Prince Charming to whisk me off too on his noble white steed.

Yes Sar-Bear, Vegas! I can't even contain the excitement! How many times is this? haha
Muffy - we must chat more!
Jill - what can I even say. How do you sum up a lifetime of traveling. I guess our 8 million inside jokes do a pretty good job of it. Oh, don't forget the upcoming adventure...New York..possibly?? I'll be there, will you be?

Ciaobella, look out. Mr. PowDers up there has been asking me the same question for fourteen years. I keep telling him to just get over it. Yet he just keeps on coming back for more.

I've been told to watch out for people with multiple personality disorders. With all those freakin' names he uses, I'm beginning to wonder who I'd really be marrying if I accepted.
Petr, I failed to mention them because I knew you'd be right behind me with a reminder.

That's the one. I think I met you once at Pinkerton Park with Jill, around the time I met Stefan. He knew your name back then (1996 iirc), but don't worry, I've long since forgotten it.

Time to come clean with your identity, my friend.

Pinkerton Park huh? That was a long time ago. I do remember meeting someone that knew Stefan, now that I think about it. You wouldn't happen to have the same name as me would you? Are you still living in Tennessee? What the heck is Stefan up to these days? I might have to get your contact info Redrum....

Hmm it is slightly possible I have the same name as you. Email me at passnotport@hotmail.com and I'll come clean, just not publicly... need fend of the Internet stalkers, or more importantly, future employers. I hear from Stefan every few months these days.
