Into the Great Wide Open 1

So last night was the big night. I left my hometown of fourteen years. I don't think I'm going to miss it very much. It was past due time. But I sure made the best of it while I was there.

I'll tell you one thing, though. I'm going to miss the HECK out of my family and friends. I managed to say many tearless goodbyes all week, but when it came time to say goodbye to the coolest fam in the world, then came the storm. I'm not going to elaborate, or else I'll start crying again.

I only made it as far as Memphis because I just couldn't let it pass. Too good of times were had there with too good of people to not spend a couple of nights. So, as I pulled in the drive to my favorite Memphians suh-weet! bungalow style digs, I was greeted with a much needed glass of wine.

One of my favorite Memphians

Then we headed out to the old standy-bys.

The Buccaneer, where so many crunken nights were had. It was here that we were taken on Julie and I's first Memphis trip together last Fall. It was here that some serious groove action has taken place. It was here that someone stole my favorite jacket ever this past Spring.

The HiTone, one of the top rock venues in Memphis. Tiny, yet efficient. Even though most of us GonerFest 2 folks decided to party with the hundreds of people outside rather than go in and face the cramped, overrated sweaty and smoky crowd. We proceeded to jam to the tunes outside while the hurricane began to roll in.

The Two Way Inn, the place that starts hoppin' at precisely 3:15a every night. The greasiest burgers you'll ever eat...but they taste damn good after a night out on the town. Chances are, if you partied with people at different places throughout the night, it's pretty much a guarentee that they'll all wind up here.

The cool cat on the left really isn't about to strangle his wife. He just wasn't smiling yet for the camera yet.

ahhh, memphis. it's like little rock minus the crack problem plus the club scene.

    overheard in memphis:

"it's midnite, yo. are we going out or what?"

"yeah. let me do some blow and i'll be ready to go."

I read this post thinking about how I just don't understand the appeal of Memphis, and how I love Nashville and hate that you don't, and then I came across this.

    Coincidence? I think not.

PS His leather jacket had chains that would jingle. They both met movie stars, partied and mingled.

...she had a guitar and she taught him some chords...

Too bad my guitar is in the possession of the movers. It wouldn't fit in the car with me.
