Into The Great Wide Open 2

It was good to hit Cooper Young before leaving. Yet another world of Memphis memories lies within. After a tasty burger and a pint of Amstel Light, we closed out our tab and got ready to go.
Then suddenly Alan exclaimed, Look at that tap wall over there! Low and behold, there she was, within state lines. So we ordered a round and I enjoyed my first Tennessee bought Stella Artois. On my last night in Tennessee. Irony? I think not. Get it while it's hot, people.
Then came an episode of The Office, a good night's sleep, and a long drive on Monday. Eleven hours to be exact. Oddly enough, time flew by. Once you get past Little Rock, Arkansas is actually quite beautiful. Driving through the Ozarks was really pretty, though if you live in Tennessee it's nothing really out of the ordinary.
Oklahoma surprised me. I had no idea that their entire theme revolved around Indians and buffalo. Shows what I know. It was one Indian reservation after another. I was excited about Cherokee nation since it's in the blood. Okay, and because of the song. At the end of all the reservations, or "nations" as they call them, things just turned to red clay dirt and prairies as far as the eye could see. I did pass a few of these windmill things. Some sort of power generators, I suppose. They have the same thing on the way to California from Phoenix, except on a much bigger scale.
(Insert cool picture of windmill thing once blogger stops sucking.)
And then came Texas. Woo hoo!! Remind me never to move here. Desolate, desolate, desolate. The sunset was beautiful, though, but I couldn't get a good picture through my bug-gutted up windshield. There was this cool cross that you could see from about ten miles away. Unfortunately, my shutter wasn't quick enough for me to get the perfect angle, as I was trying to not run off the road while doing a photo shoot at 80 mph.
(Insert cool picture of cross once blogger stops sucking.)
Seven hundred and twenty-five miles later, I arrived at my home for the evening; the hotel (with wireless internet!) in Amarillo. And now, only seven hudred and fifty miles to El Casa de Ciaobella for three days of madness in Phoenix.

You guys are going to be intolerable after two days together...Shitman and I are happy to stay here and party ourselves.
Totally rad that you have the digi to record the trip. Did you know that I'm an Indian Outlaw? I'm half Cherokee and Choctaw. My baby, she's a Chippewah. She's totally one of a kind.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Rotto and Rottita. They loved me.
Normally I'd be the one snapping the photo shoot, but this time, I'll let Jill wear her digi out.

Whoa there little lady, "Never move to Texas," after visiting only the panhandle. That's like saying you'd never want to move to Tennessee after visiting only Bristol. There is a reason it's called the panhandle; it's dull. Otherwise it'd be called Austin.

I'm disappointed you couldn't swing by D.J.'s BBQ in Forrest City, AR my family would have liked to see you. It should have been on your way through but it would have been a detour off road and I understand. :o)
P.S. I've been to Dallas and I loved it. (I'm sticking up for J.D. whoever he is...too bad he's not J.R.)

From my view from the Grassy Knoll, it looked like the JR shooter was hiding in a book depository across the street.

Wasn't that JFK? Not JR?

The bad-assness of AZ will make up for the sucky parts of TX that Jill had to deal with.
I'm off to have lunch with Bobby Ewing.

And I hear Austin's pretty cool. I'm hoping to hit SXSW this year. JD, maybe I'll see ya there.

SXSW was one of those things I never took advantage of while in Texas and completely regret it now. Can't think of another city with a better 1-2 concert punch than ACL Fest and SXSW.
And it was Sue Ellen's bitch sister Kristen who shot JR. Man do I miss the days of TNN rerunning the heck out of that show.

I heard they have trees in Texas that sprout blondes! I want one of these trees in my bedroom. When I was in Dallas all I saw was blondes, Liquor, and hot ass girls! I want to go back!

Apcocolypse Now is a great movie.
The horror! The horror!
Yes, it sounds like you missed the good parts of Texas, namely Austin. I was hoping to make it to SXSW 2006 but scheduling conflicts make it seem unlikely. Maybe in 2007 or 2008.

Glad I started a good long conversation about one of the best early 80s dramas of all time. By the way I was at Southfork ranch and saw Sue Ellen and Pam Ewing sunbathing by the pool in a scene. I actually saw that episode on TNN and remembered that I was 10 years old and hiding in the bushes with the other tourists. That's why I love Dallas....the town's cool too. :o) Ciaobella, I'll try and find your dog a shirt that says "I bit J.R."

Sweet. I just took the same route in early September but my final stop was in Phoenix. I could not bring myself to stop in Texas, except for almost running out of gas due to the miles and miles between gas stations. You are more brave than I. I had to get out of that state and into NM. The only thing that gave me a laugh in northern TX is "Bushland"! I recommend stopping in Flagstaff.
