Listen Up, Yo!

So if you're not going to be folkin' it out at the Indigo Girls show at the second to last Dancin' In The District tonight (gates open at 5:30p, $8 admission), be sure to check out the groovalicious and funkadelic Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at The Exit/In (doors open at 8p, $14 admission). There will be wa-wa. There will be funk. A booty-shakin' time. And I really, really, reeeaally want to go. It's rare that Nashville brings in true, soul-filled, music so if there are any DJ's, dancers, or funk lovers out there...this is without a doubt the show for you.

For more big shows this weekend surrounding the 6th Annual Americana Music Conference, which runs September 8 -10, get your wristbands ($25 for three-day access) at Grimey's, Tower Records, Corner Music or at the Ryman Auditorium. Highlights include Nashville-based Adrienne Young, Memphis punks Lucero, and The Pixies' Frank Black.

Have I mentioned that you need to go buy Honeycomb, recorded right here in our Little City?

Do it. (Starsky & Hutch style)
