When Stars Align

So after a long day of slaving away at the office and an then an after-hours meeting, I headed downtown to meet my favorite Memphians to catch some shows. But I was tired. And I was poor. I wasn't sure what the night would bring.

Once I picked up Amanda and Alan, who were walking down 8th Avenue after ditching their car at Mercy Lounge, we headed downtown for an endless search of parking places. Turned out it wasn't so endless. Lucked out and found a spot right on the corner of 2nd and Commerce.

Free parking.

Then it was off to fork over eight bucks to catch the Indigo Girls. Just as we approached the ticket gate, some chick came running up to us and handed us three tickets. Just like that. We quickly noticed that one of them was just the stub.

Amanda (handing ticket girl the stub): Can I get in with this?
Ticket Girl (with confused look): Ummmmm, actually I don't think s...
Me (cutting her off): That's all they gave her to get back in with when she went out to get us.
Ticket Girl (still confused): Ummm, okay, go ahead.
Me: Is that all we need for re-entry?
Ticket Girl: There is no re-entry.

Me (thinking): Dumb ass.

Free admission.

We then headed to the front of the stage (felt like we were on the damn thing), to meet up with Jag and Susie-Q. Before I know it, Susan is sticking me with a VIP pass.

Free beers.

I spent the rest of my time on the riverfront chillin' to some harmonic, folky, very well-written, made me wanna cry songs about love and loves lost. I'm really ready for California.

Once the show was over, we made it back to Mercy just in time (like, we walked in, they started playing) to catch Lucero's show. It was good stuff. A slice of Southern rock, minus the redneck part. Seeing as anytime they play in Memphis you're packed in like sardines, this medium-sized crowd gave me room to do my thang in.

Now, two more nights of Americana central. For fun, my mission is to spot Ryan Adams. Unless he's given up on it altogether.

    Anti-Virus?! Sweet!

I don't know how you're conscious today. I'm tired and I went to bed after the first show. You're a machine.

    You better believe it.

Although a nap would do me quite nicely right now.

speaking from experience, it's great to get lucky with the hookup every now and again.

newton needs to investigate this lucero band. they sound like scary.

when people ask you how you won that t-shirt, just tell 'em, "i know my shit, baby."
