Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

Ahhhh...to live in a neighborhood.

Not a suburban subdivision...but a real, live neighborhood.

It's been a few weeks since I've moved into my new 'hood, but because I'm an obsessive-compulsive unpacker/decorater, it was only this past Saturday that we were able to have our first real date night since my latest zip code change.

It was one of those old-fashioned nights that makes you feel like it were the 1930's. We started out, on foot, walking a few blocks to the very famous, very retro-styled diner, Fred62. It's one of my favorites in the area and the food is dee-lish, although their service is probably the slowest I've ever experienced. Which creates a bit of a bummer seeing as we had already bought tickets to a movie at 8:45p and didn't have our food at 8:15p, but that's a whole other story. (I won't go into the fact that my guy's burger was cold upon arrival and I had to cancel half my order because I didn't want to shove the food down my throat barbarian style...because this was our happy date night...) Once we finished with dinner (we halved the bagel/cream cheese/tomato appetizer that I had ordered), we walked ran down the street to our cute little movie theatre, Los Feliz 3.

The movie of choice was The Prestige, starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. A compelling tale about two rival magicians, The Prestige tells a story about jealousy, love, lust, betrayal and sacrifice. The story was so carefully crafted that I can assure you that we'll be hearing about it up until the Oscars 2007. I woke up on Sunday still reflecting on the meaning of it all and considering my attention span lasts for about five minutes, the fact that twelve hours later I was still pondering the plot is pretty impressive.

The walk home was a bit chilly, but seeing as it's November and I had on just a light jacket to keep me warm, I couldn't complain. The moon was full, the stars were shining, and off in the distance up on the Southern slope of Mount Hollywood, the newly renovated Griffith Park Observatory lit up the sky.

Lala how the life goes on.
